Visiting 3Form with WorkNet at the David Eccles School of Business was an extremely rewarding experience. I am very interested in companies that are able to go “green” and still remain profitable and 3Form does just that. The company creates and designs various innovative and incredibly vibrant materials while simultaneously ensuring that the production of these materials is environmentally friendly by using recycled materials and striving to become “carbon neutral” by 2017.
The best part about the visit was sitting down with 3Form’s CEO and Sustainability Coordinator to hear about the company’s environmental philosophy, its unique work environment, and how 3Form has fared with the recent downturn in the economy. The CEO gave us a brief overview of the company and its philosophy and then gave us free reign to ask questions in a no pressure type situation. It was fascinating to hear his perspectives and the advice he had to offer.
We were then given a tour by DESB alumni Cameron Bailey, who showed us the nuts and bolts of the 3Form operation and explained how his DESB experience has helped him on the job. Cameron just graduated from DESB a few years ago, so it was enlightening to hear his views.
Overall, the visit to 3Form was a great success. It allowed me to gain a better understanding of how companies can remain “green” and still remain profitable and more importantly it allowed DESB students to meet some great people at a great company.
