University Venture Fund- Private Equity Summit

The University Venture Fund hosted the Private Equity Summit at Rice Eccles Stadium on January 28-30. This was one of the best conferences I have been to. Students from schools all across the nation came to this conference. It is amazing to see all the different schools and their passion for either the entrepreneurial side of business or interest in the venture capital side.

The speakers were great and very informative. My favorite was a panel of venture capitalists. They had so much insight on the industry and for them to share their successes and failures. It is refreshing to hear them speak of their failures and how it led them to where they are today.

If anyone is interested in working in the venture capital industry including companies like vSpring, HuntsmanGay Global Capital, or the Park City Angels, this is a great conference to network with industry professionals as well as students may potentially be a contact in the future. Utah has an extremely high amount of successful entrepreneurs and venture capital companies, which is why it makes sense for the conference to be held at the University of Utah.

There were students coming in from coast to coast as well as undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Utah. The conference costs $275 which includes a free ski pass on Saturday. The David Eccles School of Business sponsored 9 students to attend this conference and they will continue to sponsor students for years to come.

The University Venture Fund did an excellent job putting this conference together. The University Venture Fund is comprised of students from different schools in Utah to handle an $18 million company portfolio. They are currently looking for students to apply for 2010-2011.
